A Bit About Hermes
Originally started as a harness and bridal workshop in Paris by Thierry Hermes in 1837, Hermes has now made a name for itself by designing and providing a huge range of luxury goods sold in their boutiques around the world.
Thierry Hermès was set apart from other harness manufacturers by the stitch work he used, done only by hand and using two needles. This resulted in extremely high quality leather work winning him an abundance of awards.
In 1922, Hermès introduced their first leather handbag and in the early 1930’s, Neiman Marcus in New York became the first store in the US to sell Hermès products. Their iconic Kelly bag (named after Grace Kelly) debuted in 1956 and then in 1984 the iconic Birkin (named after Jane Birkin) became the next giant trend handbag for Hermes. This bag still has the longest waitlist for a new bag, averaging 6 years!
From 2003 to 2010 the great John Paul Gautier was Creative Director.
